My name is Bri Matheson and I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah during a Thanksgiving snow storm in 1952. I am a self-taught artist who has been working in unusual mediums for much of my career.
I learned from brilliant influences. Alexander Calder’s work showed me the joy of artistic play, particularly through his early circus frolics. Animals and action was his motto. Joseph Cornell was eccentric, quirky, and totally obsessed with his vision. He was a Dadaist and always a loner. The iconoclastic Frank Zappa continues to be my most revered inspiration. He once said, “Art is making something from nothing and selling it.” Zappa was a fearless innovator, an astute businessman, and creative beyond belief. I continue to be in awe of his seventy-plus recordings.
My creative expressions are divided into three categories:
- Papier mache'/Mixed media,
- Bricolage boxes, and
- Paintings
